Chat with your data

The chat is how everything happens in Atta. It's where you ask questions, give instructions, and iterate on results.

The chat panel sits on the left - the canvas on the right shows what Atta builds in response.

The prompt box

The prompt box at the bottom of the chat has several controls:

  • Data dropdown - upload files, select data sources, or add data connectors
  • Image upload - attach screenshots or images to your message
  • Web search (globe icon) - toggle web search on or off to let Atta query external sources
  • Charts button - open the chart type picker to select specific chart types before asking
  • Data apps button - open the template picker to start from a layout or use case template

Writing effective prompts

Be specific. Name the columns, metrics, and dimensions you want. Describe the outcome, not the steps. Tell Atta what you want to see.

Your first prompt doesn't need to be perfect - iterate with follow-ups like "Add a filter for region" or "Change the time range to last 12 months."

Adding context

Type @ in the prompt box to reference columns, artifacts, chart types, and data app templates. Each selection inserts a pill (a tagged chip) into your prompt - you can combine multiple pills in a single message.

The @ menu shows column names from your data, chart types (e.g., Bar, Scatter with trend line), data app templates (e.g., Win/Loss Analysis, Renewals), and existing canvas artifacts.

  • Screenshots - Paste or upload an image to show Atta a chart style you want to replicate
  • Files - Drop additional files into the chat at any time to add more data
  • Web search - Enable the globe icon to let Atta pull in external context from the web

Asking about specific artifacts

Every artifact on the canvas has an Ask Atta button in its toolbar. Click it to start a conversation scoped to that specific chart, data app, or spreadsheet.

Data apps also have a Select button that lets you highlight a specific region or component to ask about or modify.
